Kendra, who was called after Buffy was drowned by the Master, is the best example we've been given of a typical Slayer. She is the kind of warrior the Council of Watchers whole-heartedly approves of, which means we don't know that much about her life since there hasn't been much to tell other than battles. Kendra was removed from her parents' care at so young an age she does not remember them, although she has "seen pictures" ("What's My Line Part 2"). We are never sure where she came from, but her accent seems Carribean. Her material possessions and physical comforts have been kept to a minimum: she owns only one shirt ("What's My Line Part 2") and arrives in Sunnydale in the cargo hold of an airplane ("What's My Line Part 1"). In short, she has been raised in a completely Spartan atmosphere, with no friends and no outside interests. Unlike Buffy or Faith, Kendra follows the Slayer Handbook to the letter through the guidance of her Watcher, Sam Zaputo ("What's My Line Part 2").
We do see tiny glimmers of the girl she might have been if she hadn't been on such a tight leash. The stake she gives Buffy for luck is her favorite, named Mr. Pointy ("Becoming 2"). She is charmingly flustered by Xander speaking to her ("What's My Line 2"). After a while, she is even able to pick up on Buffy's style of light-hearted quips while fighting.
Kendra also disapproves of Buffy's relationship with Angel, seeing him as "nothing but another animal" at first ("What's My Line 2"). When she returns to Sunnydale in "Becoming 2," sent by her Watcher because "a very dark power" was about to rise there, she sides with Xander against the idea of restoring Angelus's soul. Kendra is killed when a raiding party is sent to the library to kidnap Giles. Drusilla fights Kendra, puts her in a thrall, then slashes the Slayer's throat with her fingernails. Buffy is accused of the murder when the police find her crouched over Kendra's body.
